20 Minutes to Soothe: A Saltwater Soak

Remember, 20 minutes can be the whole practice, or a portion.

You may not have the luxury of an infinity pool overlooking the sea or a day at the beach. Yet, you have access to some of the benefits from the comfort of your own home.

Salt + water = healing.

This soothing foot soak can be done whenever you need a little relaxation or an energetic lift, depending on what you add. Magnesium has SOOO many benefits and most of us are deficient, essential oils will shift your mood, and a few other ingredients can help with detoxification.

Years ago, I was prescribed “foots baths,” from an acupuncturist, yes, it was written as “foots” and I giggled. The TCM Master advised I soak my feet in hot water and epsom salt every evening for 20 minutes, emphasizing the HOT and the time. He said I didn’t need a tub, a small kitchen trash can that I could soak my calves and feet in would be adequate.

Soaking does the body good. Epsom salt, is high in magnesium, soothes the muscles, softens the skin, and supports magnesium levels. Add a little apple cider vinegar and baking soda for extra detox benefits. Choose your favorite essential oils based on your desired outcome. Soothe: lavender, chamomile, white angelica. Energize: peppermint, orange, eucalyptus. Mix and match, find the scent that makes you happy.

Set a timer for 20 minutes. Tune into yourself with closed eyes and a couple of long, deep, intentional breaths. Turn on your favorite playlist, and soak, don’t scroll, don’t read, simply be.

20 minutes won't change your life...until it does.
