20 Minutes to Shift: An Active Meditation

20 minutes ⏳ can be the whole practice, or a portion.

As always, set your timer for 20 minutes. Tune into yourself with closed eyes and a couple of long, deep, intentional breaths.

This particular practice (Kirtan Kriya) can rewire your brain and quickly shift your state.

One of the things I love most about Kundalini Yoga meditations is that they are so intentional and they have moving parts. Which feels contradictory to what we ‘think’ meditation has to be. There are many modalities which means you get to sample them until you find one you love!

To keep this practice at the 20 minute limit, you can start with about 5 minutes of simple movement, cat-cow (seated and regular), seated or standing swinging twists, forward bends, shake, dance, move. Get the energy moving. Then take a seat, on the floor OR in a chair. Tune in to yourself by taking a few deep breaths. Close your eyes place your hands, palms up, on your knees and begin chanting SA TA NA MA while touching fingertips to thumbs. Learn more about the technique, benefits, and science here there’s also a nice little animated video with music that will keep you on track for the 12 minutes. Finish with a few deep breaths and gratitude.
